Flag Keeper
Volunteer Guidelines
Local Flag Keeper Volunteer
The most basic Flag
Keepers Project consists of folks who note the condition of unservicable
flags in their local area, or as they travel around America. When they
find an unserviceable they report the flag^s condition via our website
or mail in the report.
If you would
like information about volunteering to report on local flags, please
contact john@flagkeepers.org.
Area Manager Volunteer
The Area Manager will have responsibility for an area with a population of approximately 50,000. In that area there may be one or more Local Flag Keepers that report to the Area Manager. There may be one or more Project Managers who report to the Area Manager. Or, an Area Manager^s duties might include those of one or more Project Manager^s responsibilities. Typically this would depend on Flag Keepers activity in that particular geographic area.
Education and Training Project - In Development.
City Survey Project
One or more Local Flag Keepers will survey the condition of the majority of American flags being flown in their area. This should be done at a leisurely pace to ensure the volunteer's safety and the accuracy of the survey. The survey area should be established based on an approximate population of no more than 20,000 people for that area or population grid. City Survey Projects typically will be supervised by the Area Manager for that area.
1. We will provide the volunteer with the a simple form to record the number of flags in your area based on an actual count of flags as the volunteer canvasses that area.
2. Let's say you live in a city of 60,000 people. Simply take a map of the city and divide it up into 3 separate survey areas.
3. The City Survey Form has 4 columns. The first two columns are titled Private Residences. Under that heading one column is subtitled 'good', the other column titled 'bad'.
The next two columns are titled Business and Government. Under the Business and Government heading the first column is subtitled 'good'; the other column titled 'bad'.
4. As the spots a flag, a simple tic mark is made in the appropriate column. Ex: A squared away appearing flag is seen displayed at home, a tic mark would be recorded in the Column "Private Residence - Good".
5. Upon completion of that area's survey, the tic marks are added up. Then a percentage of good/bad flags can be obtained for residences as opposed to business/government offices or facilities. And, an over all percentage will be given to that area of approximately 20,000. Eventually, the overall percentage for that city will be considered that city's grade and will be recorded on the Flag Keepers website.
Flag Disposal Project
An individual, small group or organization can dispose of an American flag as long as the ceremony is respectful and relatively private proceeding (invited guests). This disposal ceremony should not be a dog and pony show especially with local officials or politicians that use this somber occasion as an opportunity to be seen and heard by the public.
Flag Disposal Project Manager
1. Spread the word in his/her area about where and how to properly dispose of American Flags.
2. Develop a list of patriotic organizations that provide that service.
3. Offer proper disposal training to those organizations that conduct or want to conduct flag disposal.
4. Institute and coordinate a ^flag disposal drop-off^ program at different locations around their area.

Prayer Groups Project
Prayer Groups Project Leaders should have the gifts of organization and encouragement. Primary duties will be to ^seed^ and coordinate prayer groups, maintain contact, and encourage Prayer Group Leaders in their mission.
For the reason of continuity The Prayer Groups Projects Manager acts independently of Area Managers and will be a member of separate national chain of command.
Prayer Group Leaders will organize a monthly time of prayer with like minded volunteers to meet and pray for the United States, the President, our government and civil leaders overseeing American strife, and ask a blessing on the spirit of liberty that is symbolized by Flag of the United States of America. Additionally, this prayer group should pray for the Flag Keepers organization.
Typically, the Flag Keepers Prayer Group will meet once a month with a minimum of fifteen minutes dedicated to this mission. The Flag Keepers Prayer Group can be an extension of an existing prayer group. We recognize that prayer is a mighty and wonderful thing and eagerly seek prayer support.
If you^d like to join this project please contact john@flagkeepers.org.
