If you'd like to become a Local Flag Keeper, Area Manager or Project Manager please fill out the Volunteer Form and indicate your preference and/or expertise. (Being a patriotic flag lover is great expertise!). For the Area Manager positions you should have in-depth flag knowledge. Former/active military with ceremonial experience is a definite plus! Please read all the information provided below.
Situation
All across America, of the millions of publicly displayed U.S. Flags, there are hundreds of thousands of ragged, torn and faded American Flags in dire need of replacement and or removal. Volunteers are needed to report on the condition and location of ragged flags.
Mission Statement
This Flag Keepers organization exists to bring about the removal of publicly displayed unserviceable American Flags from government and business sites by seeking to have them removed or replaced.
We seek to accomplish our mission by sending non-confrontational letters to those who display unsightly flags on their property. We also conduct parking lot surveys for dirty and ragged, vehicle antenna mounted flags. For those folks we slip a note from The Flag Keepers under their windshield wipers.
Flag Keepers Core Beliefs
The Flag Keepers organization is a network where we are not embarrassed to use phrases like Pledge of Allegiance, Declaration of Independence, one nation under God, and place of worship. We like the sound of the words pledge, America, patriotism, family, liberty, and Old Glory.
We believe deeply that the reason people of all beliefs, faith based and not, can enjoy the freedoms of America is because of the Constitution of the United States of America. The Constitution has survived because of those who prayed for, and those who worked and served, civilian and military, to protect America and its freedoms. America was founded upon the rock solid base of the Judeo-Christian value system. From that, the American spirit of freedom and liberty was born and nurtured.
The American flag is the most recognized symbol of freedom and liberty in the world. Our flag waves in a wind that blows over all Americans regardless of their religious or cultural background.
We believe in treating and displaying the American flag with dignity and respect.
We are advocates for the American Flag.
We pray that God will continue to bless America.
Implementation
All Flag Keepers must pledge their allegiance to the American Flag and the Republic using the verbiage contained in the existing Pledge of Allegiance:
“I pledge allegiance to the Flag
of the United States of America
and to the Republic for which it stands,
one nation under God, indivisible,
with liberty and justice for all.”
Safety first! Frequently, you'll see a ragged flag as you are driving down a busy street or highway and it is difficult to pull off to get an address or the name of the company. Don't worry. Make a mental note to find an easy and safe place to pull over and get that info the next time you are in the area. Safety first. Please take care of yourself.
Your personal information is never released to anyone under any circumstances.
Your information will generate a post card or letter from Flag Keepers to the owner/manager/occupant of the site drawing their attention to the unserviceable condition of their flag. The notification letter will simply ask for the removal or replacement of the flag, as well as point out how to find information on the proper display of the American Flag. Additionally, it is our policy that no information about the reporter will be disclosed.
The Flag Keepers act only as an advocate for the proper and respectful display of the American Flag at American business and government sites. We do not demand the removal of unsightly flags. We encourage the removal and replacement out of respect.
Our emphasis is directed toward commercial and government properties. Through out America there are too many tattered flags to count. There are two huge segments of America for us to target; government/commercial, and, private residences. We enjoy great success with the government/commercial responses. Residential response is terrible and costly with no return for our efforts.
Therefore, we do not put emphasis on mailing flag condition notifications to private residences due the large majority of no responses. In the past the Post Office returned to us a lot of letters as undeliverable, vacant, no longer at this address, etc. Additionally, a lot of residences simply don't respond to requests of removing or replacing their flags.
Administration
1. All administrative functions are performed by The Flag Keepers staff located in North Carolina.
2. Flag reports are filled out on our easy to use Report A Flag form located on this website. Flag Reports can mailed in. Again, the reporter's personal information is never released to anyone.
3. If you would like to volunteer to be a Flag Keeper please fill out and submit the Volunteer Form.
